An ongoing project capturing a place of great geographical, geological, natural, and historical significance, the Lessinia Regional Nature Park, located between the Venetian Pre-Alps and the province of Verona. The Lessinian territory combines fields, hills, mountains, and canyons stretching across 820km² and has an immeasurable number of archaeological, prehistoric, cultural sites, fauna, and a natural beauty unique in the world for its origin. The presence of man in the area dates back to the Lower Paleolithic, and among many was inhabited by Romans, settlers of German origin, Serenissima expatriates, French domination by Napoleon, and Austrians.
The story of the place is evident, and although the photographs are still, a strong presence of past, present, and future can be felt, conveying the awareness of time elapsing. Experiencing the landscapes can be only achieved by a demanding endeavour of climbing to the top, and the higher and further you proceed, the weaker your memory of the city evolves. Slowly, previous thoughts begin to recede, and the loud silence emerges. In it - the sound of the mountains, the trees, the skies, the stones, the roots, the land; It conveys freedom and a moment in which one feels a part of something indescribably primary and bigger.
"Shadow isn’t just the dialectical moment as opposed to the light, it’s also a psychological moment as opposed to the brightness; there is brightness and there is sorrow too.", Ferdinando Scianna
